Absolutely atrocious service at the Indian Head resort. Having never stayed at the Indian Head resort in the past, I had pretty high expectations. My wife and her family have been staying there for over 20 years and had spoken very highly of it... Not anymore.

As a gift to my father-in-law our group booked three rooms, one was a gift for him. As it turned out, that same night there was a blizzard which forced the state Police to close-off the highway because the conditions were too dangerous. After hearing this report on the drive up, we called the hotel asking if we could re-book and stay another night. The desk attendant and manager-on-duty were extremely rude and could care less. They said we would be charged for the night whether we showed up or not.

We ended up driving through the blizzard. The state Police did block 93 north and we found ourselves sitting in the middle of the highway behind one of their cruisers. After waiting over an hour, a plow showed up to start clearing a path. This didn't do much good, because by the time we were allowed to continue there was another 5 inches on the road in whiteout conditions. It was a truly life threatening drive, which was apparent when a car near us flipped off the road. Obviously Indian Head resort is hurting for cash... so much, that they don't honor the safety of their guests and tell then to drive through blizzards just to take their money. Arriving late and tired, we couldn't wait to sleep in and recover from the stressful situation. Adding to their complete disregard for guests, the hotel scheduled renovation on the rooms above us at 7AM! We complained to the front desk, but the sawing and drilling never stopped, which was so intense and loud, it shook all our rooms.

Maybe at one time in the past the Indian Head Resort was a family-friendly mountain resort which cared about their guests' experiences. Not anymore! Management has clearly ruined the hotel's reputation and credibility. Clearly the hotel expects they will stay in business through the nostalgia of past guests. The truth of the matter is that they have run Indian Head into the dirt. Never would be all too soon before I step foot in the Indian Head Resort again. I wouldn't even stay there if they paid me! If anyone is debating on staying at the hotel, you should definitely think twice. The way the hotel is run is a complete disgrace.

We recently spent a short stay at Indian Head Resort, and we were pleased. The room we stayed in wasn't the best, could use a little updating, but I felt comfortable in it. Other than that the outdoor pool was opened and kept at a great temp to compete with the cold winter air. The kids enjoyed having the option to go sledding. The restaurant staff was kind and courteous. Overall I would recommend a visit. I know we will be back.

This is a tough place to review, we have mixed emotions. Staying on the lake right next to the mountains, being able to use the paddle boats and fish for free, being in their beautiful outdoor pool looking over at the lake and the mountains is amazing. There are trails on the property that we didn't get to explore but would've liked to. Sounds silly but they had a great gift shop. Here are the unfortunate things.. we booked a "rustic cabin" that was TINY for 5 people, had a shower a grown man could hardly stand up straight in and had horrible lighting - no light in the shower and a tiny wall sconce in the bathroom. Once we looked at the chimney from the outside we feared it was going to collapse into the living room, it was the last straw and we switched to an actual room which they were very nice about and worked out nicely (1 king, 1 queen and a cot) but we didn't have sufficient dressers and lived out of suitcases for the week (made for a messy room all week). The room service was good and quick even though we were across the street from the main resort (which isn't made clear on the website). The hotel itself was probably amazing back in the day, the lounge/dining area is beautiful and overlooks the lake, but it needs some serious renovating (the live music was nice too). There are dark stairways with old dark carpeting and the game room smelled of the over chlorinated indoor pool right next door. We didn't spend much time in the indoor pool because of the over use of chemicals but also because the shallow end was tiny and the ramp into the deep end very steep. The changing rooms were super dark too. The outdoor pool was spacious and amazing but you could tell the deck area (not immediately around the pool but overlooking the lake) needed some serious repair. It was covered with artificial turf but in at least one pretty big area you could feel plywood rocking below your feet, scary. It's a beautiful place, if they could put some money into it we'd be back every year hands down.
Oh, we also had a problem at checkout with being overcharged on a pass to one of the parks (it was very convenient to be able to buy passes to local attractions) which was no big deal, the aggravating part was the way their system charges your credit card - it charges in confusing increments that even the staff couldn't explain. I had to go home, review my bill and call them to confirm the charges. The fact that the front desk staff wasn't able to clarify my charges at check out was is crazy, maybe it was a new computer system.
